Introduction to Insurance Business

This course is intended for retail bankers who need an introduction to insurance business. Insurance is generally perceived to be a difficult to sell product.

The assignments at the end of this byte-sized course is probably the most important part of understanding the basics well enough. Included with the course is a 45 minutes discussion with our co-founder to help you cement your core understanding.

Let me give you my perspective in some simple points:

  • Most Indians are either not insured at all, or are grossly under-insured (data says so!)
  • Insurance, even from the customer's perspective, is a "must-have" product, but customers tend to under-estimate the need and many-a-times, refuse to think rationally
  • So the opportunity is huge and all around you
  • Opportunity is also big in terms of income for the bank (and for those who carry income targets)
  • The challenge is not just restricted to customer's irrationality, but the poor knowledge levels of most insurance "sellers"

So the solution very clearly has to start with you:

  • Improving your knowledge; most customers will then listen to sensible advise.
  • Do not under-sell or grossly over-sell. You can hugely over-achieve your plans by selling what is right for the customers!
  • Believe in retail numbers - there is opportunity in every customer

So learn the right tips and start capitalising on the huge opportunity around you!

This course is not intended as a complete program covering all aspects of the subject. Neither do we promise some earth-shaking new theories. Instead the intention is to reinforce some concepts that you might already be aware of, a reminder on some forgotten principles and hopefully leave you with some practical ideas on doing this important business.
